William Oliver Weaver was born in a small village in Guatemala . By his first birthday the Guatemalan civil wars had escalated and his family chose to move to the island of Hawaii. Will celebrated his first birthday at Keei Beach on the Kona coast of the Big Island and his love with the ocean and the natural beauty of the world began. He learned to boogie board at the age of 7, and his passion for photography began at 12 when he started taking surfing photographs of his brother and their friends at his favorite surf break, Keei Beach.
Upon graduation from high school his parents gave him an underwater camera in support of his interest. Studying at the University of Hawaii on the island of Oahu, Will’s passion for the natural world grew into an Environmental Studies major and fuel for his attraction to photography. Although he started surfing and photographing the North Shore of Oahu, he still loves to return to Keei, his inspiration.
After graduating from UH Manoa, Will was employed by the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii to participate in the environmental division of the Army as a Natural Resource Manager. While his first love remains the ocean, he has expanded his photographic interests to include native flora and scenery in the Waianae and Ko’olau mountains. Until 2004 Will had only sold his work to private collectors, but through his collectors encouragement he has chosen to share his work more publicly.
